Match the pressure filter and pond pump

A pressure filter relies on a separate pump to move water through the canister. The filter adds resistance to the system, so allow for it when checking the pump's delivered flow. Follow the filter's maximum flow and pressure limits, especially when returning water to an elevated waterfall.

Compare the capacity rating for your fish load and the cleaning method. Leave access to backwash or clean the unit, route discharged water appropriately, and check model-specific instructions for installation height and winter storage.

Does a pressure filter pump water uphill?

The pump supplies the pressure. A compatible pressure filter can be used in a return system with elevation, within its rated limits, but the filter and plumbing reduce the flow available.

Is the pond pump included?

Check the product listing. Individual filters and packaged filtration kits are different products; do not assume a filter includes a pump, hose or every installation fitting.
