Choose the filtration your pond needs

Mechanical filtration captures debris, while biological media provides surface area for bacteria involved in processing fish waste. A UV clarifier addresses suspended algae that cause green water. These functions work together, but one device does not automatically provide all three.

Start with the filter manufacturer's pond-capacity guidance for your fish load. Check the permitted flow, hose connections and installation position, then select a compatible pond pump. Leave access for cleaning, backwashing and lamp or media replacement.

Common questions

Do I need a pond filter and a UV clarifier?

They do different jobs. A filter removes debris and may provide biological filtration; a UV clarifier helps control suspended algae. Some filters incorporate UV, so check the selected system before adding a separate unit.

Can I choose a pond filter using pond volume alone?

No. Fish load, feeding, debris, sunlight and pump flow also affect the choice. Use the manufacturer's capacity guidance for the intended pond conditions.
